Thoughts on where AI is heading

I'm thinking about the future of my job as many of us are. It's a bumpy ride we're on with all of humanity. I've always been in the privileged position of operating in an industry with a lot of demand, driving the salaries up. And I was never one to take full advantage of that, in fact the high demand oftentimes was more of a headache to me, but with the current changes in the world it seems that this will change and I do feel slight discomfort about what is ahead of us. Claude Fable is a better developer than I am. Even though I can confidently say I know my trade well, AI surpassed me. Any developer still claiming otherwise is either in denial or has been sleeping under a rock. My work activities have shifted away from solving puzzles - sometimes having driven me mad in the past - but still I loved the job; This is what made me and other developers with this personality trait end up in these careers. It takes a certain puzzle solving mindset and stubbornness to never give up on a mental challenge, in order to become a good developer. That barely happens anymore. I'm mostly reviewing AI work and Claude is having most of the 'fun' while I lose grip over the steering wheel more and more each time a new model is released. Admittedly there is a new kind of enjoyment one may experience from this newfound productivity; it's exciting to obtain new superpowers. But we all have the same superpowers and we all use them to build our own empires. All cranking out amazing software slop as excrement flooding the planet and we're all gonna be so successful...
All fun, and of course bubbles will pop, but what will remain is that my job will never be the same again. I'm particularly worried for junior devs who were promised a bright career but now are fully replaceable. And if they do continue this career, they lack the technical hardships that are the prerequisite of cultivating the mind of a good coder.

I hear various takes on this matter. Many people think only more jobs will be created. But what are we even building for then? More jobs in the field, everyone coding at 100x rate compared to pre-AI era, does this sound like a good thing? Sounds dystopian to me. The fewer lines of code written, the more elegant and trustworthy your program is. People now brag about their 100.000+ lines of code in a day, it's breaking my poor programmer heart. Having swam in seas of AI generated code already, made me uneasy many a time. As a professional I want to fully grasp the implications of each and every line of code I ship. But code is flooding the zone.
All pessimism aside I really enjoy building for the projects I work on. I'm excited building for Kwantor and hope to continue to do so for a long time. I hope things only get better and that we will find other paths to deep cognitive challenges and wisdom, and a fulfilling life.
I want to learn how best to navigate these new waters.
