Taking over an existing web app
When the developer of your web app has left, I can take it over. I did that for Taxi Haarlem Service, ThuiszorgInHolland, Morgen is Nu, and Handlefy, and more. I start by building what you need next.
The state projects are in may be sometimes good, sometimes bad. It can be especially a challenge when a huge codebase is very specific to a sole developer who left. Sometimes that codebase’s state is the reason for him/her leaving.
Procedure
In order to properly diagnose the state of a project, I look at the code, but this is not always enough to be able to make estimates about how long certain work would take. In which case I prefer to dive into implementation right away; I start by adding the first small features you want me to, so I actively learn how a project is set up.
Non-developer usually underestimate what it takes to become fully familiar with a project. I guide you through understanding that so it makes sense to you.
The costs
Due to the above, pricing a takeover is hard, and it will always remain so. When too much is unclear, I do a fast first look for free. Then I may continue with a quote, optionally, to take more time to get clearer about the project, and implement a few first features, to see whether things work out between us and whether you’re happy with my work. Once I know the project, I can quote better.
Selected work
- Taxi Haarlem Service: taxi booking app and dispatch system
I built the website, customer app and dispatch tools for a cooperative of thirteen taxi drivers, a service its customers prefer over Uber. It keeps their shared Google Calendar at the centre and connects bookings, driver assignments and flight updates through airport APIs.
- ThuiszorgInHolland: care-worker app connected to AFAS
For a home care organization, I connected AFAS to the recruitment website and care app: employee and client records coming in, vacancies and applications going out.
- Morgen is Nu: holistic health webshop
I look after Morgen is Nu’s development, from product search to checkout. The holistic supplement shop has to serve both people who know exactly what they want and people still finding their way.
- Handlefy: real life 'Dropbox'
Handlefy was a platform for decentralized storage space where you could administer and store your items, which would be picked up and returned where and whenever you wanted. Basically real life Dropbox/Cloud buckets. I worked on the iOS/Android app, website and cms.
Working together
I work from Zaandam, next to Amsterdam, in the Netherlands. Tell me what you want to build, what already exists and where you are getting stuck. How I work.
